The Winchester Scholarship Foundation is proud to announce the creation of two new endowed scholarship funds recognizing and honoring the lives of two Winchester educators and residents. Each fund is the result of separate committees of Winchester residents feeling that the contributions of each educator should be commemorated forever.
The Donna Gildersleeve Scholarship Fund was created to recognize Donna’s 45 years as a Physical Education and Health Teacher at the Lynch and McCall Middle Schools. She was the Athletic Trainer at Winchester High School for over 30 years. Donna’s great strength was her relationships with the Winchester High School students. She developed these special relationships while training members of the WHS sports teams. Nearly all the WHS varsity sports teams donated to Donna’s Fund, which was established by donations of $35,388.25. During the current year Annie Ettenhofer was nominated to receive the first Donna Gildersleeve Scholarship.
The Kathleen Bodie Scholarship Fund became the 55th WSF endowed scholarship fund. A Committee of Winchester friends and admirers wanted to recognize Kathy’s commitment to education during the past 50 years. More than 75 donors, primarily Winchester residents, contributed $35,000 to Kathy’s Fund. The fund is meant to recognize and honor Kathy as a dedicated school educator, school administrator, and public servant. Kathy has constantly encouraged young people to pursue careers in teaching. This year’s nominee and award recipient is Erin Ladd, a UNH Junior pursuing a career in teaching.
A full listing of each of the WSF ‘s 55 scholarship funds can be found on the WSF’s website at: www.winchestersf.org. Endowed funds are the principal source of the WSF scholarship funds at $551,300 during the current academic year.
