The Foundation
The Winchester Scholarship Foundation is a voluntary non-profit organization dedicated to providing need-based financial aid to students who have graduated from Winchester High School. The Scholarship Committee composed of five Winchester residents, awards scholarships based upon unmet family financial need. Since its establishment in 1945, the WSF has been supporting students during their four college years as well as students pursuing graduate degrees. Income from endowed gifts from organizations and individuals as well as annual contributions are the principal source of funding.

In the past 15 years, WSF has awarded 1,200 scholarships in excess of $4 million dollars to students who have graduated from Winchester High School.
One such recipient, Michael Foley, of the Winchester High School Class of 2005, attests to the value of the foundation towards his career. A beneficiary of WSF scholarships throughout his four years in medical school, Foley received his medical degree from the University of New England in May. WSF also provided him with scholarships throughout his four-year undergraduate program at Boston University.
“The cost of medical school is significant, but there are very few scholarships available for med students,” said Foley, now a resident at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. “I’m incredibly grateful for the help that the WSF has offered over the years, as both an undergrad and a med student.”
Foley’s twin sister Meagan and older brother David, of the WHS Class of 2003, also benefitted from the foundation. Both students received four annual scholarships from WSF throughout their years of undergraduate school at the University of Connecticut and Northeastern University, respectively. Today, Meagan is an athletic trainer, and David is the new recipient of a Suffolk Law School degree.
For three years, WSF provided support for all three children at the same time.
“Since our twins were born, we have always realized the time would come to have three children in college at the same time,” said Anne Foley, Winchester resident and mother of the three graduates. “The cost of college tuition today can be very overwhelming. The generosity of WSF has certainly helped the process go easier. … As a 1971 graduate of Winchester High School and one of seven children, I am well aware of the great work done by WSF. I myself, and a few of my siblings were awarded scholarships that allowed us to attend and graduate from good schools. Because of the long-standing and solid reputation, the WSF is still available today to help my children.”
